Good habits to build in 2023

Introduction:

All right. 2023 comes to an end. It has been a crazy year for everyone. To Some of us, 2022 was the year of growth and crazy experiences, and for others it was just another ‘average’ year just like all the previous ones.

For the first type of people, they got to try out new things and got out of their comfort zones to discover themselves and grow their skills and feed their knowledge. They took risks, and made mistakes, and went through ups and downs, but at the end, if you ask them about how they felt overall, they’ll be grateful for those experiences and decisions because it shaped their future, shifted their perspective on life and made them better people.

While for the second type, nothing changed in their lives. Everything remained the same after 365 days. They still are negative, find excuses to justify their failure and sometimes blame other people and circumstances for their misery. They still waste their time on social media comparing themselves to others and still refer to good life as “easy and non-problematic life”.

However, there is always a chance to get better in life. There are always new opportunities to improve the way we think and live and change our lives. The journey toward a better future starts by building good habits.

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” (Aristotle).

A slight change in your daily habits can guide your life to a very different destination. Making a choice that is 1% better can have an enormous impact on your life when repeated daily.

Here are some habits to implement in your daily life to improve it:

1.    Wake up early: Research has proven that those who wake up early have shown better mental health symptoms. They are optimistic, satisfied and feel positive about situations. It also lowers the chance of mental illnesses which is usually found in those who go to sleep late and wake up late. A French quote that says “Le bonheur appartient à ceux qui se lèvent tot » which means that people who wake up early are most likely to get things done in time and are more productive than others.

2.     Time Block your day: Time blocking is a scheduling format that helps boost productivity by dividing your day into specific blocks of time. Using this approach, each block represents the time dedicated to completing a specific task or tasks. It’s effective because you know exactly what to do throughout your day and also have time to rest and do your favorite activities. I already dedicated a blog post to time management, feel free to check it out for more details.

3.     Get active: Regular  physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health. It is not only good for your body, but it's also great for your mind. Being physically active can improve your brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve your focus and mood.

4.   Limit your screen timeSmartphones now have screen time functions that allow you to check your daily and weekly usage and make adjustments, such as setting usage limits for social media apps. Social media is useful when used well. But most of the time, we lose track of our day by scrolling through them for hours waiting for the next trend to come out or the next song to drop off. We unconsciously dedicate most of our time to compare ourselves to others and this has a major impact on productivity and the overall wellbeing so make sure to limit your screen time and use these apps wisely to avoid addiction.

5.   Read Books: “Every book your read takes you to a higher shelf.” Reading is beneficial for many reasons: It improves your focus, memory and reduces stress, which improves your mental health. Reading also allows you to learn new things to help you succeed in your work and relationships. Reading is such an Effective way to deepen your knowledge in any field you’re interested in. Whether it’s about fiction or history or even Psychology. The greatest secrets of success and guides for better lives are shared in books. You can start small be dedicating 5 min a day to lock in the habit of reading on daily basis then increase the number of pages according to your capacity. Trust me it’s worth it.

Conclusion:  It's never too late to do good. Take advantage of this new year to work on yourself. JIM ROHN once said: "If you work hard on your job, you'll make a living. If you work hard on yourself, you'll make a fortune."
